How to get your Google Voice data
- Go to takeout.google.com and sign in with the Google account that has your Google Voice number.
- Click Deselect all, then scroll down and check only Voice.
- Click Next step. Choose Export once, file type .zip, and a file size of 50 GB so it arrives as one file.
- Click Create export. Google emails you a download link (usually minutes, sometimes a few hours).
- Download the .zip and drop it into the box above. That’s it.
Questions
Is it private?
Yes. The export is created inside your own browser. Your messages, photos and phone numbers are never uploaded to any server.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in any modern browser. On phones, large exports with many photos download in several smaller parts; the site tells you how many before you start. On a computer with Chrome or Edge, any size is saved as one file.
What do I get?
A .zip with one PDF per person or group in date order (with photos), the original photos and attachments, voicemail audio, messages.csv with every text, and calls.csv with your call log and voicemail transcripts. Very long conversations are split into several PDFs.
I use a Mac and got a folder, not a .zip
Safari unzips downloads automatically. Right-click the Takeout folder, choose Compress, and add the new .zip file. To stop this in the future: Safari › Settings › General, and untick “Open safe files after downloading”.
Are group texts included?
Yes. Group conversations get their own PDF with each person’s name above their messages.
Are calls and voicemails included?
Calls and voicemails with the people you selected are included. You can also choose to include every call and voicemail.
Why does Google give me thousands of files?
Google Takeout saves texts as many small web pages, split by day and by conversation. This tool puts every piece back together into one thread per contact, removes duplicates and puts everything in order.
